Gary Berg

Chief Gary Berg leads the Campbell Police Department with over 30 years of service, combining extensive field experience with a drive for technological innovation and community-focused policing. Recently, he guided Campbell in becoming the first U.S. law enforcement agency to secure an FAA Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) waiver, authorizing 24/7 Drone as First Responder (DFR) operations. Using radar and electro-optical sensors, Campbell’s drones can now operate without a visual observer, boosting emergency response and officer safety.

Chief Berg has championed initiatives that blend technology with traditional policing, creating data-driven strategies that have reduced crime. Under his leadership, Campbell implemented a Real-Time Information Center, merging public and private data to enhance crime-solving efficiency. His collaborative approach has strengthened community partnerships, ensuring technology supports both residents and officers.

An FBI National Academy graduate, Chief Berg is also recognized for his contributions to national security, from consulting on international law enforcement to managing security for events like Super Bowl 50. His dedication to innovation, safety, and community trust has positioned Campbell as a leader in modern, responsive policing.
