Profile

Lt Col (ret) Greg “YT” Whiting, Director of Joint Air Operations for the Texas National Guard, Program Manager for the Texas Military Department’s sUAS program, and Chief Operations Officer for the Texas Air Operations Center. He manages all disaster aerial response, oversees all aspects of the TMD sUAS program, and coordinates all operational activities for the three air wings in Texas that fly C-130s, F-16s, and MQ-9s.
Greg is a 1987 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. After pilot training Greg went to F-16 Basic Qualification in Phoenix, AZ. His first assignment was with the 612th Fighting Eagles at Torrejon Air Base in Spain. Greg deployed to Operation Desert Storm and flew combat sorties out of Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. Greg earned multiple Air medals for his efforts. Greg retired in 2007 as a Command Pilot with over 2,300 total hours, most in F-16s.
Greg was tasked to stand up a sUAS program for the Texas National Guard and with the help of interagency partners, became the first National Guard unit to have an operational state COTS sUAS program and one of the largest programs in the state of Texas in just one year. He has also recently been appointed the Director for all TMD Technology Integrations.
